Life just now
is like the three day moon
not nothing
nor everything
a portion of light
destined to expand
and contract
shadows of responsibility
dominate the landscapes
Occasionally there will come
a break in the clouds
so the whole surface
floods with light
and all is fleetingly clear, crisp
and wholly known…
until the waning comes
where darkness takes back its ground
and freedom is rescinded
to make room for the ‘musts’,
‘shoulds’, and ‘better-haves’.
Life just now
clings to the promise
of the three day moon
to tiny gestures of reaching out
peering down closed avenues
seeking permission to wander
where the curved path leads
or what might happen
if only…
The three day moon
whispers to not give up
to approach the gate
to wonder longingly
to gaze
upon
glimpses
of
possibility
